Life is dance. Dance is the art that comes out of us. It is in our nature. Someone may not agree with this statement but it is so. Dancing makes us happier, sets us free and helps move in harmony with the sounds of the world. Music, dancing are those things we can’t live without. They help us relax and develop creativity. Dancing we open great abilities of our brain and train to percept information faster in extreme conditions. We teach our body to feel deeper and all our senses are set to extremely detailed examining of the outside world. There, while dancing, we learn quick problem solving and we actually generate unique ways to find the solution. Dances teach us to become more critical and more creative which is very important to be yourself. This is one of the keys to successful personal coming into being. Dances raise our spirits and gives us life energy.
Dance has its own language and let’s say vocabulary which is constantly developing and broadening. Dancers either use already known movements or create new and add them to the existing ones. Dance comes out of us and to tell the truth as professionals say, you don’t even need anything just yourself to make a perfect dance. While dancing the dancer moves his body trying to control it. The body becomes a material moved by the dancer’s soul. Unbelievable pirouettes and the limit of human abilities – that is what we get from dance. This is body that happens to be the first element of dance. But there are also other elements we should mention. These are action, time, space, energy. Talking about action every dance may include different styles of walking, jumps, movements of the face, lifts and special dance steps. Dance is the harmony between movements and pauses which actually form the complete picture.
Space is where dance takes place, develops and exists. We see numerous combinations and vide variety of movements dancers perform. It is dancer’s right to interact with the space around him to understand it and to learn how to move in it. Dancer doesn’t necessarily have to move around. He can stay in one place moving parts of his body. There are actually no limits or restrictions for dancers how to use the given space. Changes of direction, changes of the level of tension, rapid alteration of movements are present in dance. A dancer can travel on one line or unpredictably move from one place to another. We might not even see any distinct point to which a dancer will travel. I can even add more. Some particular dance can be performed at one small place somewhere in the corner of the stage or it can be presented on a big scene where a dancer occupies the whole space. It is also interesting to know that dance movements are designed accordingly to the specific place. For example we can sometimes see dances for club, lift, hall and others.
Time for dancers is very important to consider. But let’s not use the word time but rhythm. While dancing it is important to feel the rhythm and distinguish the periods to perform a certain movement. It is not necessarily has to be the music to create the appropriate rhythm. Dancers can feel it in their breathing.
Energy is another important element of dancing which should be controlled and invested at special periods. Energy is controlled through dancer and he must feel how to let it out. Using of your body energy depends on many factors and knowing how to use it you will be able to create something great and unbelievable. Depending from the dance style dancer feels how much force he has to put into every muscle, evaluates his own weight and the weight of his partner. Even running can be very quick but then stopped rapidly, it can be light or very powerful, loose or tight. There we see how control of body energy changes the style of running and of all dance. Even emotions depend on the energy. Let’s say strong stroke represents aggression while light touch – love or uncertainty.
What is dancing? Well, every nation has its own style of dance which helps to express the nation’s peculiar character, traditions, life style, and cultural development. Folk dances form the world’s culture and uniqueness. But not just folk dances are important for the world’s culture. Alternative styles from past and from present are the proof of man’s creativity, development and show that we are not degrading. You know, often a man can find himself in a situation that he needs to express himself somehow different from the traditional ways. Often that is music that makes people move their body with the rhythm showing personal feelings and emotions. We do find ourselves more productive after dancing.
What are the main dance styles? Well to cut the long story short there are hundreds of them. Online world might not even know about all of the existing styles as far as many new sub styles appear very quickly. Let’s say, with every new style of music appears a number of dance sub styles. And by the way, hey! We are unique creatures and we often make something that always looks much different.
So, to sum up we should understand that any dance is very complicated. It engages all power of our brain to make perfect performance. Dancing is not about something mechanical it is about something more sensitive that comes out of our heart. Dancers combine their emotions with the place and time and express themselves in unique and unrepeatable way. Dance is the art.
